The Best Places to Train in MMA

Mixed Martial Arts is one of the most popular martial arts, and for good reason. Fighters train for years, giving blood, sweat and tears for their sport, all to become the best MMA fighter possible.

MMA training is much different than many sports, with a much different exercise regimen than those who are just hoping to get fit. Professional fighters are training at the highest level, and spend weeks at a time with the same people, sharpening their skills and pushing themselves to the limit.

When it comes to MMA, it isn’t just how much time you’re willing to put into the sport, but also who you’re training with. If you find that you’re consistently beating everyone else at your gym, you may want to consider finding a better place to train:

Here are the best places to train in MMA:

Tristar Gym in Montreal Canada

This was originally a kickboxing gym, and was founded 25 years ago by Conard Pla, an ISKA world kickboxing gym. He went on to sell the gym, until Firas Zahabi and his friends began using the gym for Brazilian jiu-jitsu and grappling as well. Tristar is now considered to be the best place for Canadian MMA, and has been known to produce champions for the past few years.

Nova Uniao in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Brazil has long been the place to go for MMA fighters, and is  the birthplace of more elite level fighters than any other country. However Nova Uniao is one of those gyms which stands head and shoulders above most of the rest, and now has facilities across Canada and the United States. The club was founded by Andre Pederneiras who was a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, and Nova Uniao is now one of the destinations for both Brazilian and non-Brazilian elite fighters.

American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, USA

Ignore the name, as the American Kickboxing Academy doesn’t just focus on kickboxing. Over the years the club ha expanded into many other martial arts, including Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, and wrestling.

The clubs reputation has ensured that it has attracted top fighters from both the United States and around the world, including Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez, Gary Maynard, Luke Rockhold, and Jon Fitch.

Jacksons Mixed Martial Arts in Albuquerque, USA

If you travel down to the deserts of New Mexico you’ll find Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts, a school run by Greg Jackson which has been producing MMA champions for many yeaers. In fact he founded his own martial art back in 1992 called Gaidojutsu which combines elements of judo, kickboxing, and wrestling.

In 2000 his school was one of the first which approached MMA as a brand new discipline, combining the best parts of many different martial arts.
