“RICE & MISO EVERYDAY” serves basic Japanese home-style food such as Rice Balls (Onigiri) and Miso Soup. Our Onigiri are made with certified organic brown rice and hand crafted. We also use seasonal, sustainable and organic ingredients from local farms for the miso soup and for the bento box.
Rice is a staple food for Japanese people. It contains 70% of water while bread contains only 30%. Specially brown rice is well balanced in nutrition and contains a significant amount of fiber so it not only fills your stomach for long periods of time with just a small portion but also cleanses the body from inside.
Miso soup complements rice. It is made up of miso paste, broth, and a mixture of ingredients. Both the paste and broth come in many different varieties and help make thousands of different miso soups. Ingredients such as vegetables, seaweed, meat and seafood are added to make a total balanced portion with the grain (rice).
Miso paste is made from fermented beans or grains, with soy beans being the most popular. Recently, fermented foods have been highlighted as being important to a daily diet since it was found they help build a stronger immune system. There is also evidence that the rate of cancer is almost zero in Japanese villages where people have miso soup daily.
There is a traditional Japanese saying that “humans can survive with only rice and miso”, which may sound extreme, but once you incorporate them into your daily diet you will see that it makes you satisfied and energized.
